Exploring Autumn at Blessed John Duckett
Class 1 pupils at Blessed John Duckett have been diving into the wonders of autumn. As part of their seasonal learning, they discovered the history behind Bonfire Night and why it is celebrated across the UK. The children expressed their creativity by writing firework poems, enjoying messy play, and taking part in colourful art activities. A highlight of the week was making their very own edible sparklers, which brought the excitement of fireworks into the classroom in a fun and tasty way.
Autumn Adventure and Scarecrow Competition
The learning continued outdoors with an exciting autumn adventure. Pupils proudly delivered their handmade scarecrow to the Community Centre Scarecrow Competition, showcasing their teamwork and imagination. Afterwards, they explored the local nature reserve, where they collected seasonal treasures such as colourful leaves, berries, acorns, and shiny conkers. This hands‑on experience helped children connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons.
Celebrating Diwali – The Festival of Lights
Class 1 also embraced the vibrant traditions of Diwali, learning about its cultural significance as the Festival of Lights. Pupils created stunning rangoli patterns, role‑played the famous story of Rama and Sita, and prepared delicious Diwali sweets to share with the whole school. These activities gave children a deeper understanding of cultural celebrations and the importance of light, joy, and togetherness.
