Class 2 Get Growing in Science!
This week in Science, Class 2 have been busy planting their very own bean seeds and learning all about how plants grow. After carefully planting the seeds, the children watered them and placed their pots in a sunny spot in the classroom. We discussed why plants need water and sunlight to grow and how looking after them every day is important.
Class 3 Explore Living Things and Their Habitats
In Science this week, Class 3 have been learning about living things and their habitats and how the environment can affect wildlife. Today, we took our learning outside and went on a walk around our local area. The children carefully observed their surroundings, identifying positive features, such as green spaces and plants, as well as negative features that could impact wildlife, including litter and busy roads.
Class 4 Explore Creativity at The Glo House in Consett
On Wednesday, Class 4 from Blessed John Duckett Catholic Primary School in Tow Law enjoyed an exciting and inspiring trip to the Glo House in Consett, as part of their ongoing Market Makers project. The visit gave pupils the opportunity to explore new artistic skills, boost their creativity, and contribute to a real‑life marketplace experience.

Year 3, 4 and 5 Get Stuck In With Tree Planting!
Pupils in Year 3, 4 and 5 at Blessed John Duckett Catholic Primary School in Tow Law enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning experience this week as they joined forces with Helen and Alice from Oases to take part in an exciting tree planting project. Oases are working closely with the DCC Woodlands Creation Scheme, an initiative focused on developing new woodlands to support and protect local wildlife. As part of this inspiring environmental education activity, our pupils rolled up their sleeves, grabbed their spades, and worked brilliantly as a team to plant an impressive 52 new trees!

Class 4 Launch Their ‘Market Makers’ Journey
Class 4 at Blessed John Duckett Catholic Primary School in Tow Law have officially begun their exciting ‘Market Makers’ enterprise project, run by Durham County Council and delivered alongside the owner of The Glo House in Consett.
UK Parliament Week and School Council Elections
Year 5 and 6 at Blessed John Duckett took part in UK Parliament Week, gaining a deeper understanding of how parliament works and why it plays such an important role in our country. Pupils explored the significance of Budget Day, particularly how decisions made in parliament can impact schools and education. They also discovered that there are 650 Members of Parliament representing communities across the UK.
Forest School Fun
Class 2 at Blessed John Duckett have begun their exciting forest school sessions, making the most of outdoor learning and adventure. Pupils had a wonderful time exploring the forest school area, where they worked together to build dens and discover the joy of nature.
