Year 3, 4 and 5 Help Create a New Woodland Habitat
Pupils in Year 3, 4 and 5 at Blessed John Duckett Catholic Primary School in Tow Law enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning experience this week as they joined forces with Helen and Alice from Oases to take part in an exciting tree planting project.
Oases are working closely with the DCC Woodlands Creation Scheme, an initiative focused on developing new woodlands to support and protect local wildlife. As part of this inspiring environmental education activity, our pupils rolled up their sleeves, grabbed their spades, and worked brilliantly as a team to plant an impressive 52 new trees!
Learning About Nature and Sustainability
Throughout the session, children learned about:
- The importance of tree planting for wildlife
- How woodlands help improve biodiversity
- Ways trees support cleaner air and a healthier environment
- The long-term impact of sustainable outdoor projects
This hands-on activity not only strengthened pupils’ understanding of the natural world, but also helped nurture teamwork, resilience and a sense of responsibility for caring for the environment.
A Memorable Day for Our School Community
Despite the mud and winter chill, the children were enthusiastic, focused and incredibly proud of their achievement. Their contribution will help create a thriving woodland habitat that local wildlife can enjoy for years to come.
A huge thank you to Helen, Alice and the Oases team for delivering such a valuable learning opportunity.
We’re excited to watch our woodland grow—one tree at a time!
