We had a fantastic day at Newcastle Castle on Friday, with lots of exciting learning and fun for all year groups!
Reception and KS1 explored the different parts of the castle, discovering how it was built to defend against enemies. They also learnt about the various jobs people had in the castle, including the very important role of a food taster—who checked meals to make sure no one was trying to poison the king!
Meanwhile, KS2 delved into the history of the Normans, learning why the castle was built and how it was used. They explored the weapons used by knights and even had the chance to reenact a battle, bringing history to life in a truly memorable way.
One of the highlights of the day was climbing the 99 steps to the top of the castle, where everyone enjoyed taking in the amazing views from above.
However, the clear favourite moment for many was the opportunity to put the teachers in the stocks and throw vegetables at them—a hilarious and unforgettable experience for all involved!
It was a brilliant day filled with learning, laughter and lasting memories. Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the trip!
